This week Progress Software announced a number of new capabilities across the Chef portfolio meant to accelerate time to value for our customers. With the acquisition close earlier this month, Chef became part of Progress and adds DevSecOps capabilities and expertise that help organizations succeed with their digital efforts.

About a year ago, I talked about how we were going to refresh the Chef Certification program, and the need to update it to match our modernised product line up.  Since then a lot has happened, both at Chef Software and in the world in general.

I can’t wait to see what Progress and Chef can do together. Chef is already the industry’s preeminent DevOps and DevSecOps technology leader and has helped drive digital transformation for developers and Fortune 500 customers. Progress is a trusted provider of the leading products to develop, deploy and manage high-impact business systems.

Chef Infra Server acts as an enterprise hub for configuration data. Chef Infra Server stores cookbooks, the policies that are applied to nodes, and metadata that describes each registered node that is being managed by Chef.

To compete in the modern economy, organizations across industries have had to develop competency in the digital domain. Customer-facing apps and digital experiences drive growth, while large scale software systems keep operations running efficiently.

Chef Habitat is an open-source automation product for defining, packaging, and delivering applications to any environment, regardless of operating system or platform. Habitat was launched by Chef as a new project with its own stand-alone community site (habitat.sh) in 2016.

Chefs, We are excited to announce that Chef has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by Progress. We expect the transaction to be finalized over the next 30 days or so and, once completed, Chef will become an integral part of Progress.

On August 10, 2020, Chef was named a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave™: Infrastructure Automation Platforms, Q3 2020. In particular, the Forrester report stated: “Chef Software’s solution is a good fit for customers that want class-leading governance and compliance features.

Identity is the new perimeter. Now, cloud services, containers, service meshes and container orchestration platforms all rely on machine identities such as X.509 TLS certificates for secure machine-to-machine communication. However, it’s not always easy for developers to include strong machine identities in the fast-paced environments they work in every day.
